Specialty Doctor – Acute & General Medicine

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is recruiting a dedicated Specialty Doctor to work across Acute and General Medicine. The role combines daytime acute care responsibilities with general internal medicine duties, under consultant supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Provide medical assessment and care in the ambulatory emergency care unit and high‑dependency unit.
• Participate in the senior‑tier on‑call rota, covering one evening per week and occasional weekend day shifts (approximately one weekend every 6‑8 weeks).
• Undertake rotational duties on downstream specialty wards as required by service or training needs.
• Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety, medical education, research and appraisal activities, with support for additional SPA time.

Required profile

• Qualified medical doctor with experience in internal and acute medicine.
• Willingness to work under direct or indirect consultant supervision.
• Commitment to service development, education, and research initiatives.

Required skills

• Medical assessment and acute care expertise.
• Knowledge of high‑dependency unit management.
• Familiarity with ambulatory emergency care pathways.
