Specialty Doctor – Acute & General Medicine

About the role

NHS Lanarkshire is recruiting a dedicated Specialty Doctor to work across Acute and General Medicine. The role combines daytime acute medicine duties with contributions to the senior on‑call general medical rota, offering a varied clinical experience within a supportive teaching environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide acute medical assessment and care in the ambulatory emergency care unit and high‑dependency unit.
• Participate in the senior tier on‑call general medicine rota, covering one evening per week and occasional weekend day shifts.
• Undertake rotational duties on downstream specialty wards as required by service or training needs.
• Work under direct or indirect supervision of a consultant, ensuring high‑quality patient care.
• Develop and lead quality‑improvement, patient‑safety, education, or research projects through SPA time.

Required profile

• Fully qualified medical doctor with experience in acute and general internal medicine.
• Willingness to engage in on‑call duties and weekend coverage as described.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and service improvement.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and management of acute medical conditions.
• Experience in high‑dependency unit care.
• Familiarity with ambulatory emergency care pathways.
