Staff Nurse Band 5 – Barra Nursing Team (Isle of Barra)

About the role

The NHS Scotland Barra Nursing Team is seeking a Staff Nurse Band 5 to work on the Isle of Barra. The role involves rotational shifts delivering hospital and community care to the 1,300 residents of Barra and Vatersay. You will provide a range of clinical services across inpatient, emergency, outpatient and palliative settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical care in St. Brendan's Hospital (inpatients, emergency, outpatient) and community settings (CTAC, palliative care).
• Cover the islands of Barra and Vatersay, responding to both scheduled and unscheduled care needs.
• Supervise and educate nursing learners and support multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Maintain all mandatory training requirements and register with the PVG Scheme.
• Utilise a driving licence to travel between island locations as required.

Required profile

• Qualified or near‑qualified nurse registered with the appropriate regulatory body.
• Commitment to evidence‑based, high‑quality patient care.
• Willingness to work flexible, rotational shifts.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Valid driving licence for island travel.

What we offer

• Salary range £34,544 – £43,039 per annum.
• Additional £1,461 Distant Islands Allowance per annum.
