Staff Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner – Recovery

About the role

This position is for a Staff Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner working in the Theatre Recovery Area of a busy NHS hospital. You will provide one‑to‑one post‑operative care for adult and paediatric patients across a wide range of surgical specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver immediate post‑operative and anaesthetic care in a fast‑paced recovery environment.
• Monitor and manage airway adjuncts, pain, invasive lines and vital signs.
• Identify and respond to clinical emergencies and post‑theatre complications.
• Collaborate with anaesthetists, surgeons and senior recovery staff to ensure high‑quality patient care.
• Participate in a 6‑month orientation programme and ongoing in‑service training.

Required profile

• Qualified Staff Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner registered with the appropriate UK body.
• Experience caring for surgical and acutely ill patients, including children.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including days, nights and weekends as needed.
• Ability to obtain PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) clearance.
• Legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
