Team Leader/Senior Charge Nurse – Older People’s Mental Health

About the role

This permanent position leads a dedicated team of registered and support nursing staff delivering high‑quality mental health care for older adults. The role operates 24/7, ensuring safe, patient‑centred services across NHS Lanarkshire.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual care programmes for older people with mental health needs.
• Delegate clinical tasks appropriately and supervise both trained and untrained staff.
• Maintain a robust system of clinical and managerial supervision for the whole team.
• Provide expert advice and support to colleagues, external agencies and community partners.
• Ensure compliance with clinical guidelines, standards and NHS policies.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration.
• Degree‑level education, with postgraduate expertise in mental health or learning disabilities.
• Comprehensive knowledge of relevant clinical guidelines and standards.
• Full UK/EU/EEA driving licence.

• Clinical assessment and care planning for mental health.
• Leadership and team management in a 24/7 environment.
• Delegation and supervision of nursing staff.
• Knowledge of NHS policies and mental health legislation.
