Locum Consultant Anaesthetist – 6 Month Fixed Term

About the role

This is a six‑month locum consultant anaesthetist position at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, within NHS Fife. The role supports a busy district general hospital delivering anaesthesia across a wide range of surgical specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Provide anaesthetic care for robotics, general surgery, breast, ENT, maxillofacial, obstetrics, gynaecology (including oncology), trauma & orthopaedics, ophthalmology and paediatric procedures.
• Deliver day‑case surgery services at the stand‑alone unit in Dunfermline.
• Support the on‑site National Treatment Centre for elective orthopaedic work.
• Participate in teaching programmes and maintain a high standard of clinical governance.

Required profile

• Medical postgraduate qualification (e.g., FRCA, MRCP, FFICM).
• Full GMC registration, a licence to practise and eligibility for the GMC Specialist Register.
• UK‑trained candidates must have completed higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within six months of confirmed entry.
• Portfolio Pathway candidates must have an awarded certificate before applying for a substantive consultant post.
• Non‑UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training and eligibility to practise as a specialist in the UK.
